Productomschrijving

The Alexander Technique is a method for developing conscious use of oneself in all activities of living. F. Matthias Alexander (1869–1955) started to develop the Technique in the early 1890s in Australia. The Use of the Self was F. M. Alexander’s third book, first published in 1932. It was reprinted several times in England and the USA. The present edition, the fourth, constitutes a faithful restoration of Alexander’s authorised 1946 edition. It includes two prefaces by Alexander and an introduction by the educational philosopher John Dewey. The Use of the Self is a classic work and is widely considered to be Alexander’s most accessible book. It has a practical orientation and describes how the Alexander Technique is taught and applied through three detailed case histories, illustrating the principles of the Technique in practice. The most notable case history is Alexander’s own account of how the loss of his voice while reciting led to the explorations and insights which became foundational for his technique, including his discovery of the primary control of the use of the self – the integrating relativity between head, neck, and back in activity. This chapter, ‘The Evolution of a Technique’, has become seminal: it is the most discussed and referenced of all of Alexander’s writings. His record of self-exploration and self-discovery has continued to inform and inspire students of the Alexander Technique around the world. Meer lezen Snelle levering vanuit Nederland.
